Hurricane Gonzalo hit Saint-Barthélémy and Saint-Martin on Monday night with heavy gusts of wind reaching 150 kilometres per hour.

A warning has been issued and people have been ordered to stay at home on both islands.

Earlier on Monday, Gonzalo was merely a tropical storm threatening Guadeloupe though it finally spared the island before turning into a major hurricane heading towards the neighbouring islands of Saint-Barthélémy and Saint-Martin.

Three have been reported missing, two on Saint-Barthélémy and one on Saint-Martin.

No information was available about other casualties and damage.
