The Manchester City attacker, who is 32-years-old, helped La Roja win the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 and two European Championship titles, in 2008 and 2012.
"I leave proud and happy, bringing an end to a time full of emotions and memories, like of the figure of Luis Aragones, a maestro who will never be forgotten" Silva said in a social media post.
"I lived and dreamed with a team that will forever be remembered.
"I have spent days and weeks considering this as the national team gave me everything and helped me grow as a player and a person."
Aragones led Spain to their first major trophy at an international tournament in 44 years with victory in the 2008 Euros.
He died aged 75 in 2014.
Silva's announcement comes after 31-year-old Gerard Pique's own last week.
Pique's former Barcelona team mate, Andres Iniesta, meanwhile, ended his time with the Spanish national team after their disappointing World Cup campaign in Russia.
