Democratic Republic of Congo claim 2016 African Nations Championship

Meshack Elia bagged a brace as Democratic Republic of Congo swept past Mali 3-0 on Sunday to win the African Nations Championship. TP Mazembe striker Jonathan Bolingi got the other goal 17 minutes from time to add the gloss to the final in Kigali.

It's the second time DRC have won the competition reserved for players who feature in their national leagues. DRC claimed the inaugural tournament in 2009 beating Ghana 2-0 in the final. Tunisia and Libya won the other events in 2011 and 2014 respectively.

Cote D'Ivoire, who won last year's Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, beat Guinea 2-1 to claim third place.
