PSG take on Toulouse in quest for domestic glory
Paris Saint-Germain maintain their push for triple domestic glory on Wednesday with a League Cup semi-final clash at the Parc des Princes against Toulouse. It will be PSG's third meeting against the side in the past eleven days. Laurent Blanc's outfit have knocked Toulouse out of the French Cup and edged past them in the championship.
PSG were in scintillating form over the weekend in Ligue 1. Argentina international Angel di Maria bagged a brace as they thrashed Angers 5-1. Toulouse were hammered 4-0 at Monaco to remain in the relegation zone.
Survival in the top flight will be the priority for Dominique Arribage's men who are one of half a dozen clubs in the dogfight to avoid the drop.
There are no such worries for PSG. They are 21 points clear of second-placed Monaco with 16 games of the season remaining. A fourth consecutive league title appears certain. The interest will be whether PSG can repeat the treble feats of last season in which they won both knockout cup competitions as well as the league.
There is also the ambition this season to reach the latter stages of the Uefa Champions League.
Lille will be waiting for the winners of Wednesday night's game in Paris after they thrashed Bordeaux 5-1 on Tuesday to secure their first appearance in a French League Cup final.
The victory was something of a surprise. Bordeaux arrived at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy unbeaten in 11 matches in all competitions. But Willy Sagnol's players were 3-1 down at half-time.
Any hopes of a fightback in the second period were all but extniguished when Eric Bautheac hit Lille's fourth after 56 minutes. Sofiane Boufal added the gloss in stoppage time.
Lille boss Frédéric Antonetti said after the game: "This win was down to team spirit, to generosity, to desire. Football's a team sport and everyone was playing for their teammates."
