Uefa's Platini admits payment without contract

Suspended Uefa chief Michel Platini has admitted he had no written contract for a 2 million Swiss franc (1.8 million euro) payment from Fifa president Sepp Blatter in 2011.

The news comes as his chances of replacing Blatter as head of football's world governing body plummet, ahead of a key Fifa council meeting in Zurich on Tuesday.

In an interview with French daily newspaper Le Monde, Platini said he and Blatter had agreed "man to man" to a fee of 1 million Swiss francs per year for his work.

Fifa is based in Zurich and is subject to Swiss law - and Platini argued that under Swiss law "an oral contract is worth a written contract".

The former France captain had been seen as favourite to take the helm of Fifa, until he was named in a Swiss criminal investigation into Blatter's management of the organisation.
