Latvala, who held a slender three second lead over Frenchman Ogier, won his third Finland rally by 13.7 seconds.

This was Latvala’s second win of the season after emerging victorious in Portugal.

Norway's Mads Ostberg, driving a Citroen, took third over one minute and a half further away.

With this win, Latvala has now jumped to second place in drivers’ standings. However, he is still adrift of Ogier by 89 points.

With a one-two finish in Finland, Volkswagen have taken an almost insurmountable lead in the constructors’ championship.

The World Rally Championship moves next to Germany for the ninth leg of the season starting on August 20.
