Hamilton beat Rosberg by almost 11 seconds at the end of the 52 laps of the Silverstone circuit.

Hamilton’s race didn’t get off to a perfect start as he was outsprinted by the Williams’ duo of Felipe Massa and Valteri Botas at the first corner.

Though Hamilton clawed back to second place before the end of the first lap, he lost his place again to the Finnish driver after a safety car episode.

Mercedes’ decision to call Hamilton for a pit stop before the Williams’ drivers worked wonders as after the first round of tyre changes, he had leapfrogged into first place. All this while, Rosberg had maintained his fourth place.

Just when it seemed Hamilton would cruise to a win followed by the two Williamses, rain intervention turned the race upside down.

Rosberg revelled in the changing track conditions as he overhauled both the Williams and was on Hamilton’s tail. As Hamilton struggled to cope up with the rain, he was called in for his second pitstop.

Putting on intermediate tyres on lap 43 was the decisive moment of the race as just a few seconds later, the downpour became heavier.

Rosberg was at a severe disadvantage as he had to negotiate the rain on dry tyres for one lap. With intermediates on, there was no stopping Hamilton as he cruised to a win followed by his teammate.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel too benefitted from a timely change to intermediate tyres as he finished third ahead of Massa and Bottas.

Red Bull Racing’s Danil Kvyat finished sixth ahead of Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen, Force India’s Sergio Perez and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso completed the top 10 finishers.

With this win, Hamilton now leads the championship by 17 points ahead of Rosberg while Mercedes have a commanding 160 points lead over Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship.
