The win was also special for Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger who became the second manager to win the competition six times, a tally matched by only George Ramsey, who won the last of his titles with Aston Villa in 1920.

The win was ninth major title for Wenger who has been Arsenal’s manager for 19 years.

Aston Villa, who were appearing in their first FA Cup final since 2000, were unable to contain the speed and movement of Arsenal’s players.

Villa never really in contention as Arsenal struck twice in the first half that gave them a strong grip over the match. Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez were the two goal scorers.

In the second half, it was Per Mertesacker and Olivier Giroud’s turn to get on the scoresheet and seal their second consecutive FA Cup win.

It was also the biggest victory margin in an FA Cup final since 1994.

Speaking about the win Wenger said that he felt proud about the result.

"We have shown that we are a real team and can deal with pressure. I congratulate the players, the staff and the fans. We are so happy."
