Everton stun Manchester United 3-0

Manchester United got a big reality check as they were beaten 3-0 by Everton in their English Premier League match at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Goals by James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas helped Everton score their biggest win over the Manchester club in 23 years.

Everton made their intentions clear as early as the fifth minute when James McCarthy skipped past two defenders and scored his team’s first goal.

Thereafter the visitors had plenty of possession and a golden opportunity to equalise just three minutes later. However, United forward Marouane Fellaini misdirected his shot and missed the target.

Just when it seemed that the visitors had taken control of the game with plenty of possession, Everton doubled their lead in the 35th minute following a brilliant goal by John Stones.

Manchester United managed to clear two corner kicks but they were done in on the third time as Stones made a perfect connection to Leighton Baines corner kick, scoring his first goal in the English Premier League.

Down 2-0 at halftime, United brought on Radamel Falcao and Angel Di Maria as substitutes in the second half.

However, it was Everton’s substitute Kevin Mirallas who had a telling impact on the game as he scored Everton’s third goal in the 74th minute and piled on misery for United.

Everton have now remained unbeaten in their last six games.

With this loss United are now fourth in the standings behind leaders Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal.

City jumped to second place following their dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.
