Diplomatic contacts between the US, Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority have not brought results, partly due to Israel's continued support for settlements built on territories occupied during the 1967 war. More than 350,000 settlers live in the West Bank alone. The EU, Canada and UN bodies see the settlements as illegal under international law.
