The 45-year-old teacher was hospitalised with light stab wounds in his side and throat. The local prosecutor said he is being questioned on why he lied about the attack.

Earlier, it was reported that the teacher was stabbed by a balaclava wearing attacker who shouted IS warning before fleeing.

The local prosecutor’s office had opened an investigation over attempted homicide in relation to a terrorist act.

The 'attack' had prompted a visit to the school by the French Minister of Education Najat Vallaud-Belkacem.
