"The plane passed under the ski lift, just missed the trees and then a group of children

before touching down on a blue run on which the woman was skiing," a source at the fire service in the ski resort of Avoriaz, near the Swiss border, told the AFP news agency.

The single-propeller aircraft hit the 55-year-old woman’s arm, leaving her hand almost amputated, emergency services said.

It had been forced to land after being damaged during take-off.

Two people were on board.

The woman was immediately flown to a local hospital by helicopter.
