France's oveworked immigration lawyers

Issued on:

France deported nearly 37,000 immigrants in 2012. They were mainly people without valid residency or work documents and had been in France for periods ranging from a few days to several years. All deportations get decided upon by a judge and no one appears in court in France without a lawyer. Some 400 people practice immigration law in France, only about 20 specialise in deportation cases.
