In 1998, the Council of Europe ruled that European countries should ban all forms of hitting children by parents. Yet, France remains one of the few countries that has failed to implement the law. In mid-June, the Paris-based Foundation for Childhood launched a video campaign to educate parents about the negative consequences of using any type of violence against children. The video has shocked many in France and has sparked a debate about parental discipline.Β
