Female police officer dies after car chase

A female police officer was killed on Thursday following a shootout on a motorway outside Paris. According to Le Parisien newspaper, two other police officers and five civilians were wounded during the car chase, which took place on the A4 motorway at about 9am.

The deceased officer was shot in the head and the stomach. She was evacuated from the scene by helicopter but later died from her injuries in hospital.

The chase began when a car carrying four or five people refused to stop for police.

French Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux visited the scene at Villiers-sur-Marne on Thursday morning and vowed that the criminals would be brought to justice.

“Everything will be done to find the perpetrators,” he said. “It will take time but they will be caught.”

“These criminals will not go unpunished,” he added.
