7 injured as British tourist coach crashes in France

A coach carrying 34 British holidaymakers from a skiing holiday in the Savoie region in the French Alps crashed on Sunday, injuring seven and sparking long motorway tailback, firefighters said.

The coach was taking the British tourists from the Alpine ski resort of La Rosiere to Chambery airport when it overturned on the motorway at about 08:45am.

Among the 34 passengers of the bus, seven suffered minor injuries to the wrists or to the arms, six were treated for shock and the remaining escaped unhurt.

About 50 firefighters were on the scene at the height of the rescue operation which caused 16 kilometres of tailbacks.

The cause of the accident was unknown on Sunday morning but “the investigation is underway”, the police said.
