Three die as storms hit France

Three people died when storms and hugh winds hit France on Wednesday. Heavy rain was forecast in parts of the country on Thursday.

A 92-year-old man was found crushed in the ruins of his barn, which collapsed when high hit the Aube in southern France.

In Burgundy a man in his 60s was killed by a roof that was torn off a building by teh wonds.

And a 25-year-old man near Lyon was killed as he sat in his car in his workplace carpark and a large oak tree crushed the vehicle.

Three people were injured and some 250 roofs damaged by winds that reached 130 km/hour in the Aube and an uprooted tree seriously injured one pedestrian, leaving another less badly hurt, in Clermont-Ferrand in the centre of the country.

Thousands of homes suffered power cuts in Burgundy and the Auvergne and the second tornado in a week hit part of the west of the country.

The night was calmer than forecast, however.

Heavy rain was forecast in the Ardèche and the Drôme in the south on Thursday.
