Ronaldo strikes twice for Madrid to reach twin peaks

Cristiano Ronaldo was on target during his side's Uefa Champions League success in Sweden. Their 2-0 win put them in pole position ahead of their next game at home to second-placed Paris Saint-Germain who won 3-0 at Shaktar Donetsk. Ronaldo's goals also mean he'll soon be rewriting the Real Madrid record books.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals on Wednesday night as Real Madrid beat Malmo to register their second win in Group A of the Uefa Champions League.

The victory leaves them top of the pool on six points ahead of Paris Saint-Germain on goal difference. The two sides meet on 21 October in Madrid.

For 30-year-old Ronaldo, the game was a personal milestone. He scored the 500th and 501st goals of a garlanded career.

He also drew level on 323 goals with Raul as Real Madrid's all-time leading scorer.

"I am very happy. I thank all my teammates that have helped me achieve these figures, and to beat the record at the biggest club in the world is an honour," said the Portugal captain.

In 2009, Madrid paid Manchester United 108 million euros for the services of Ronaldo. Both parties appear to be prospering.
