Speaking in Zurich, where Swiss police arrested seven Fifa officials in May, US prosecutor Loretta Lynch warned that “no individual is above the law”.

At a joint news conference, the Swiss and US attorney generals said that huge volumes of data have been gathered so far.

Swiss Attorney General Michael Lauber said financial assets, including properties in the Alps, have been seized.

He also said 121 bank accounts are under investigation.

The investigation has so far targeted 14 people, with Lynch saying she hopes the six Fifa executives still detained in Zurich will be extradited to the US to face trial.
