Christians debate Pakistan's anti-blasphemy law

Issued on:

Protesters in three Pakistani cities were among Muslims in many countries who protested against the film Innocence of Muslims. Pakistan has a law against blasphemy that sparked controversy last month, when a young Christian girl was accused of burning pages of the Koran. She was taken into custody after narrowly escaping being lynched and is now in hiding with her family. The World Council of Churches in Geneva, organised a conference which ended on Wednesday on how to deal with what it sees as the misuse of Pakistan's blasphemy law. Asiya Nasir, one of the participants, represents the Christian minority in Pakistan's government.
