Europe spies too says the UK's Guardian newspaper
A report published by the UK's Guardian newspaper Saturday revealed European countries are working together to perform similar snooping tactics to that of the U.S., despite the recent spying furore sparked by the US’s global surveillance apparatus.

Based on information leaked by former U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden, the Guardian said intelligence agencies are tapping into fibre optic cables and collaborating with private telecommunications companies.
The Guardian revealed close technical collaboration between the British, French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Dutch spy agencies.
The new files also made clear that Britain’s GCHQ plays a leading role in guiding its European counterparts on how to circumvent national laws designed to restrict surveillance mechanisms.
The German, French and Spanish governments have reacted bitterly to reports based on leaked information by Snowed since June of mass surveillance of communication and phone tapping.
US security officials have asserted that the monitoring was executed by the local security agencies and then shared with the US.
