Controversial immigration law passed in Dominican Republic

Issued on:

The Dominican government is facing intense international pressure over a court ruling that will strip citizenship from hundreds of thousands of people. Foreign leaders, United Nations agencies and human rights groups have called on the government to reverse the September 23rd court ruling. The decision will make stateless the descendants of illegal immigrants even if they were born on Dominican soil and had been granted their documents. RFI speaks to Edward Paulino, a Dominican-American historian about the tensions that have led to the decision.
