Kenya’s coast is full of architectural and linguistic reminders of the region’s centuries-old relationship with Arabic countries like Oman. The Kiswahili language itself grew from a fusion of coastal Bantu languages and Arabic. Until today, many Swahili people along the coast still have familial, cultural and religious ties to Arabic countries.
