Finnish-Ethiopian lady sings the blues, and they’re real dark

Issued on:

Mirel Wagner is an intriguing artist. She sings her dark folk-blues songs in English, her vocals are stark, her finger-picking guitar accompaniment minimalist. On her recently-released second album When the Cellar Children See the Light of Day her voice is simple and soothing as a lullaby, but the subject matter is not for kids. She talks to RFI about her fascination for the macabre and why in both music and life, the strongest things are often the simplest.Mirel Wagner is in concert at La Maroquinerie in Paris on 12 December
