Tintin pages fetch record 2.65 million euros at auction
A two-page spread of cartoons by Tintin creator Hergé was sold for a record 2,650,000 euros in Paris on Saturday in an auction that raised 500 million euros on its first day.

The cartoons, drawn in Indian ink as inside covers for Tintin books published between 1937 and 1958, were the first lot in an auction of works by the Belgian artist at the Artcurial auction house in the French capital.
At over 2.5 million euros, they beat a previous record for cartoons of 1.3 million euros also held by Hergé for the cover of Tintin in America, drawn in 1932 and sold by Artcurial in 2012.
Saturday’s lot was estimated at 700,000-900,000 euros before the auction.
The first day of the auction of Tintin-related works netted about five million euros for nearly 500 items, another record for sales of cartoons.
Hérgé was the pen name of Georges Prosper Remi.
