The ethereal sounds accompanying the piano are coming from the Ondes Martenot, an electronic musical instrument that first appeared in France in 1928. The rare instrument has a small, dedicated following, and is currently the subject of a documentary film showing in Paris. But one inventor is taking up the task of replicating the design and guaranteeing it has a long future.
