WTO ministers fight to salvage global trade deal in Bali

Issued on:

The World Trade Organization (WTO) meets for its ninth ministerial conference on the Indonesian island of Bali today, fighting to salvage a global trade deal. After 12 years of the so-called "Doha Round" of talks, WTO negotiations have yet to achieve a breakthrough. Diplomats tried to reach an agreement ahead of the summit last week but failed. RFI spoke to Simon Evenett, a trade economist who says the WTO is becoming less relevant as a forum for free trade, leaving poorer nations to fend for themselves.
