NATO Secretary General in Armenia and Azerbaijan amid growing tensions

Issued on:

The NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, is due in Azerbaijan following a visit to Armenia. Tensions between the two countries intensified this week after Azerbaijan pardoned and promoted a soldier who had been jailed for murdering an Armenian officer during a NATO-run training course in 2004. This added fuel to a long-running dispute over the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh. RFI discussed the situation with Richard Girgossian, director of the think-tank Regional Studies Center based in Yerevan, Armenia.
