More than 24 gunmen entered the terminal and set off explosive devices on 12 of the 18 tankers there, according to police.

The attackers fled the scene and it is not known which group is responsible.

Two drivers and two guards who tried to resist were killed.

A string of Nato oil tankers were attacked in the same region at the end of last year when Pakistan closed its northwestern frontier with Afghanistan after a Nato helicopter killed two Pakistani soldiers.
