Indian tax officials raid Bollywood's top actresses

India income tax officials say they have raided the homes of two top Bollywood actresses for tax evasion. Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif are being investigated, but tax director general DP Gaur would not say why they were targeted.

The two actresses "are being searched and whatever materials are procured will be recorded for further action," said Gaur.

Katrina Kaif, aged 26, is a former model who was born in Hong Kong to a British mother and father of Indian Kashmiri origin. Her breakout hit was Namaste London (Hello London) in 2007.

She has starred in Sing is Kinng, New York, Blue, and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (An Amazing Story of Strange Love)

India Today, a weekly news magazine, reported that Kaif earns 485,000 euros per film and she receives over 400,000 euros per year for product endorsements.

Priyanka Chopra, 28-years-old, is a former Miss World, and one of the top-paid actresses in the Hindi language film industry. She has starred in a number of highly popular films, including Fashion, Dostana (Friendship), and Kaminey (Scoundrels).

There was no immediate comment from publicists for Chopra or Kaif.
