An Air France flight from San Francisco to Paris was diverted to Montreal on Tuesday because of an anonymous threat less than a month after the 13 November Paris attacks.

Flight AF083 from San Francisco to Paris was diverted "as a precaution", Air France told the AFP news agency.

It touched down just before midnight local time in Montreal.

"Local authorities will begin checking the plane, passengers and baggage," the company said in a statement.

"An investigation will be carried out by the authorities to identify the origin of the alert."

The airline apologised for the "inconvenience and delay" to its passengers.

France is under a state of emergency following the Paris terror attacks, in which 130 people died.
