The album, where he's joined by a talented band of "friends", also draws on Dub, Mento, Calypso and even Jazz rhythms in its quest to reach the foundation of reggae.

Nicodrum plays the repeater or peta, one of the three drums in the Jamaican set known as Aketeh.

Interest in this musical heritage is waning in Jamaica, but Nicodrum is keeping the flame alive, not just playing the music but also making the drums, including for Jamaica's last Burru master Skully Sims.

Nicodrum is currently promoted by RFI's Talent programme.
