Colombia sets a referendum to recall sacked Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro

For three days just before Christmas, Gustavo Petro, the mayor of Colombia’s capital Bogotá, attracted tens of thousands of supporters to the city’s main square. He had been ousted by the country’s inspector general ostensibly for failing to deal properly with the city’s trash and this year will be continuing his fight against what he calls a corrupt state.
