US reports highlight oil drilling safety concerns

Issued on:

A report released in the United States says offshore drilling safety and monitoring is still inadequate, two years after the massive BP oil spill along the southern U.S Gulf Coast. Measures to prevent further oil spills are the subject of two reports released this week by US institutions. One of them issued by the Institute for Southern Studies based in Durham, North Carolina, says that despite what it describes as "BP's rosy campaign", families in the affected areas are still struggling with severe health and economic problems. RFI talked to Chriss Kromm, one of the authors of the report.
