Thousands of supporters of outgoing prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai gathered in Harare on Monday to back his bid to become Zimbabwe's president. The final rally of his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) was initially banned because the government claimed there were not enough police available. But it went ahead and supporters listened intently to Tsvangirai's election promises just a few blocks away from the headquarters of President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF.
