Women in Uganda could be jailed or fined for wearing mini-skirts, under the terms of a new bill. The so-called Anti-Pornography Bill would criminialise what it describes as abetting pornography. This means that women could be fined up to 10 million shillings, the equivalent of 3000 euros, for baring their legs and they could even face a 10 year jail term. Simon Lokodo, the minister behind the draft legislation, has explicitly warned that if the bill is passed and a woman wears a miniskirt, she will be arrested. RFI spoke to Angelo Izama, a blogger, who reports that some bars in Kampala are holding "save the miniskirt" parties to protest against the draft legislation.
