Cameroon goes to the polls

Issued on:

Cameroon heads to the polls today with incumbent President Paul Biya set to extend his 29-year rule, aided by a divided opposition and a single round election. More than seven million Cameroonians are registered to vote, but perennial opposition candidate John Fru Ndi is the only credible challenger among the 22 candidates from the opposition. Biya is running for the sixth time and had to modify the constitution to be allowed to run again. Roddy Barclay, an analyst with Control Risks in London, speaks about how he sees these elections unfolding.
